If you live in or are visiting West Michigan over this holiday weekend, electronic music is in the air. For one, the Electric Forest Music Festival, a 4-day long festival hosted in Rothbury, Michigan is underway this weekend with thousands in attendance. Electric Forest is headlined by some of the biggest names in the EDM industry such as Tiesto, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Kaskade, Skrillex, Feed Me, etc, as well as local West Michigan based acts. We talked to many people about the Electric Forest Festival and the overwhelming response we received was disappointment about not being able to attend the much hyped event due to high ticket prices. Trying to gather the dough for tickets that cost well into the hundreds of dollars is hard enough let alone trying to get a group of your friends to do the same thing to join you turned out to be the case for a lot of die hard fans of electronic music.
However, there is something else going on this weekend that turns those frowns upside down. For the majority of us in West Michigan are turning on our radios on the road and in our homes to tune into another weekend-long party, the RED WHITE & BOOM 80 hour-long mix show hosted by 104-5 WSNX! This event marks the THIRD non-stop, extended mix show produced by WSNX that features all local West Michigan DJ’s spinnin’ their own sets back-to-back. The show is featuring 20 DJ’s to be exact, it began yesterday (Friday July 1st) at 5pm and is set to run until 11:30pm Monday July 4th.
With the overwhelmingly positive response and success of the past two non-stop extended mix shows hosted by the popular radio station already this year, the 60 hour Spring Break DJ Takeover, and the 80 hour Memorial Mixin Memorial Day weekend show, WSNX definitely seems to have the right idea. Taking a step out from the normal routine of radio, 104-5 WSNX gives its listeners something new and intuitive that directly involves the community in which it resides in by including those members, DJ’s and their fans alike in the process. We have already heard some amazing sets so far from some of the area’s most popular DJ’s and there is so much more in store for this weekend with many more DJ’s and sets still yet to spin that will keep the party going all the way until Monday night!
